MapInfo spaces out with Oracle

GIS vendor MapInfo has entered into an alliance with Oracle to provide a "Spatial Internet Solution" for business intelligence users.

MapInfo's MapXtreme, MapX, MapMarker, EasyLoader, Commercial Data and MapInfo Professional applications will be bundled with the Oracle8i relational database and Oracle's GIS data analysis application, Oracle Spatial.

The two companies said the combined solution would allow organisations in industries like telecommunications which were addressing customer relationship management issues to merge the analysis of geographic and demographic information into the one database, with integrated analysis tools.

The alliance, which took a year of software development to build, will be consummated in June when the entire range of integrated applications is made available.
