One of the most powerful men in the USA, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Robert Mueller will be using an Australian records management application. TRIM Context from Tower Software has been selected for a small licence deal, which could have great ramifications.

They are a high profile organisation for records management, but for all the wrong reasons as they have lost important files in the past."

In a short statement the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) confirmed that the TRIM Context application will be used "within the Office of the Director, located at the FBI Headquarters in Washington DC."

Cliff Sink, the vice president of sales and marketing for Tower Software in the USA told Image & Data Manager that the deal is for five concurrent system licence users. Mr Sink was only able to inform us that TRIM will be capturing emails and that it is not replacing an existing records management application within the FBI.

"In terms of the licence size it is not that big, but for profile, they are a high profile organisation for records management, but for all the wrong reasons as they have lost important files in the past," said Geoff Moore the business development manager for Tower Software of the deal. Mr Moore admitted that if successful, this deal could be highly influential for Tower in the growing US market.

"The director has already had training and is using it," said Mr Moore.

Unlike the US Navy deal of 2001, Tower Software partners EDS were not involved in this deal, Mr Sink said.

"We hope to run right through the FBI, which is a massive organisation with a large use of records," said Mr Moore of the possibilities that this deal could bring.
