EMC rolls out Storage Administrator for Exchange

Sep 29, 2005: EMC Corporation have launched Storage Administrator for Exchange, a plugin for Microsoft Storage Administrator for Exchange interface that allows management of email, SAN storage and data migration from within the same software tool.

Aimed at mid-sized enterprises and small-to-medium businesses managing up to 3000 mailboxes, EMC says Storage Administrator for Exchange simplifies Microsoft Exchange Server storage administration and improves email availability when deployed on their CLARiiON network attached storage devices.

Donna Conner, senior product manager of the Exchange division at Microsoft says that as customers of all sizes count on Exchange Server, storage consolidation becomes increasingly attractive as the amount of data stored grows. "EMC helps our mutual customers consolidate storage, and secure and manage their Exchange Server 2003 infrastructure."

And it does this in a number of ways. For example, after Exchange requirements such as mailbox numbers, user quotas and expected growth are inputted, Storage Administrator for Exchange automatically creates the storage configuration and expands capacity on demand.

When a database is near capacity, storage on CLARiiON is reallocated on the fly, if a server fails, administrators can reassign storage groups with a few mouse clicks and migration from Exchange Server 2000 to 2003 can be done automatically.

The software will be available in October and will start at $2000USD per Fibre Channel or iSCSI array when deployed on a CLARiiON AX100.
