May 3rd, 2006: It’s that time of year again and Australasia's leading Information & Communications Technology (ICT) event for the business marketplace is rolling into town. IDM stands with pen at the ready…

Now in its fifth year, CeBIT Australia 2006 is expected to attract 700 exhibitors and 30,000 business visitors. Running for three days from the 9th May in the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, CeBIT covers the broad spectrum of business technology and the key elements that make up the ICT products and services marketplace.

CeBIT aims to keep everyone from C-level executives, to IT professionals, software developers and business line managers informed with the latest and best practices in integrated business technology solutions.

Topics covered this year will include networks & wireless, telecommunications, data capture & digital media, internet applications and services, software and services, enterprise solutions, open source, intelligent office, security & storage and IT hardware.

In addition to these topics, there will also be a number of special events such as on-site seminars and Tech Forum Panel Discussions. Seminars will cover cutting edge technology like VoIP, RFID, Push to Talk, Triple Play, digital content and security, while the tech forum discussions will address issues surrounding networks and wireless, storage, mobility, data capture, internet applications, venture capital, enterprise solutions and much more.

Keynote addresses from Randy Lynch, Chief Operating Officer Telstra Business & Government, Mark Handler, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, International for The Walt Disney Internet Group and Daniel Shin, Managing Director LG Electronics Australia will provide some expert inside information.

9 – 11th May at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour

An expert forum discussion on the lessons learnt by the Music Industry by not embracing technology will also be held on May 9th, with Paul Buchanan General Manager of SoundBuzz, Chris Lane, Group Director or Consumer Products & Delivery for Optus, Gavin Parry, Director New Media for SONY BMG and Neil Stewart, Marketing Director High Growth Markets Mobile Devices for Motorola detailing how they came out ahead by embracing what would have ruined them otherwise.

The e-Government forum will also be returning this year, making its appearance on day two of the event, Wednesday the 10th of May. It will be addressing emerging issues such as the e-health card, which has been making news on idm.net.au. With all a patient’s details and medical history assembled on one card, it is projected to save the health sector millions by slashing administration costs and cutting welfare fraud. Make sure you’re in the forum to find out what this means for the future of the healthcare industry.

The e-Government forum will also be exploring e-Government-driven public/private partnership projects, how teleworkers are 40% more productive than their office counterparts and how governments around the world are moving into Open Source platforms to provide more flexibility in the development and integration of their systems.

How will these e-Government manoeuvres affect your business or your industry? Be sure to check out CeBIT’s e-Government Forum for 2006 to find out.

As an official media supporter, IDM will be on the ground at CeBIT every day bringing you the news as it happens.
