Desktop paved for plasma

Hitachi's plasma technology has made its Australian desktop debut, with the release of its 25 inch (639mm) SXGA display.

The 1280 x 1024 CMP205SXU model features a wide viewing angle and has been designed particularly for CAD/CAM and graphics applications, as well as presentations and information kiosks.

With a weight of 20.5kg and a panel depth of 122mm, the display is suitable for narrow desk mounting, and as plasma is not affected by magnetic or radiated fields, it can be used in situations that could not utilise CRT technology.

The screen has a pixel pitch of .39 x .39mm and an aspect ratio of 5:4 so that it will be ideally sized for SXGA images, however the model's zoom command in its OSD software fits smaller VGA to the screen.

The screen also has a viewing angle of 160 degrees and can display more than 260,000 colours with a brightness of up to 90 candelas per square metre (cd/m2).

The release of this model follows the 42 inch version unveiled last November. This much larger model has been targeted for boardroom applications, as well as for high-end consumer use.

The CMP205SXU is available now for around $17,400.
