BH IT launches new DM business unit

BHP Information Technology has established a Document Management Business Practice to provide professional consultancy and delivery services for the BHP Group of companies as well as corporate and government clients.

Through this DM Business Practice, BHP will be implementing electronic document management and integrated workflow systems for clients, enhancing productivity, security and user access.

To improve safety and accuracy, streamlined imaging systems may be installed to provide users with access to the most current documents, overcoming the risk of people viewing outdated versions of drawings or client records.

Where there is a need to register and control large volumes of engineering drawings and associated documentation, a backfile conversion and EDM system may be introduced.

"BHP IT's primary focus when dealing with customers' requirements is to optimise processes that manage the avalanche of documents in today's electronic business environment," said Len Churchward, principal consultant, Document Management Workflow, BHP IT.

BHP's DM Practice will also concentrate on the implementation of imaging and workflow solutions to assist organisations to achieve and maintain quality certification, and increase user productivity.

The DM Practice also encompasses document repository managers, document image processing systems, workflow, and relevant Information Sharing tools, such as Groupware and Internet/intranet access.

The services offered by the practice include modelling of business processes, definition of system requirements, technical evaluations (including impact on client, server and networking resources), systems integration, customisation and delivery of packaged solutions.
