Office connects to knowledge resource

Microsoft has made no secret of its intention to connect its PC office tools to media and knowledge system and the today it announced a deal with Factiva that will see the business information service connected and integrated into Office 2003.

Factiva is a Web based service for business users. The site draws on global content from Dow Jones and British news service Reuters. Content is delivered to users via an XML and Web services system the joint venture company created.

When Microsoft launches Office 2003 later in the year, users will be able to click through to Factiva News Search, a content system that links to 8,000 sources of business information. Microsoft will integrate Factiva News Search into its Research Task Pane, which will be part of Word; Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint in the Office 2003 suite. Office 2003 is currently available as a Beta 2 trial application.
