Is Gates the world's most spammed person?

Nov 19, 2004: If you think you have a problem with unwanted email, spare a thought for Bill Gates, for the Microsoft chairman reportedly receives around 4 million email messages a day.

That's according to the company's chief executive Steve Ballmer, whose comments at a Microsoft event in Singapore went some way to underline why Gates has been such a vociferous opponent to unsolicited email.

"Bill literally receives four million pieces of email per day," said Ballmer.

Gates will no doubt be hoping that his own prediction that Spam would no longer be a problem by 2006 – which he made in January at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland – will prove accurate.

Though before we feel to much sympathy for Gates' Spam plight, Ballmer also revealed that Microsoft has special technology in place which has the sole purpose of filtering messages intended for Gates, with a whole department dedicated to ensure that nothing unwanted reaches his inbox, so it's unlikely that any offers for cheap Viagra or bootleg copies of Windows will make it as far as the Microsoft supremo's gaze any time soon.
