NetApp and Kazeon strike OEM agreement
Oct 13, 2005: With the announcement of an OEM agreement with Kazeon, Network Applications looks to be moving into information classification and management (ICM).
Together under the terms of the agreement NetApp and Kazeon will integrate the intelligent data classification and search capabilities of Kazeon's Information Server with Network Appliance storage systems. In addition to this, NetApp will resell Kazeon's IS1200 Information Server.
The recently introduced IS1200 is, according to Kazeon, the only scalable, integrated, content-aware solution for enterprise information visibility and control. Integrating directly with NetApp data protection and regulatory compliance solutions, it delivers legal discovery, continuous compliance auditing, file recovery and data classification for advanced ILM projects.
Kazeon will also be further enhancing their Information Server to take full advantage of NetApp Data ONTAP, NetApp, SnapVault and SnapLock products as part of the new agreement.
"Leveraging Kazeon's search and classification capability across the NetApp data management infrastructure will allow us to provide compelling information management solutions to customers." Said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "Enterprises will now have the ability to find information distributed across the network while reducing the risk of compliance or legal exposures without disrupting their current operations."
According to Kazeon, the IS1200 seamlessly integrates with existing infrastructure. Supporting standard interfaces for UNIX and Windows shared files as well as EMC Centera, a single unit can manage tens of millions of files. For larger operations, clusters can be deployed taking this number up to hundreds of millions of files.
It uses classification data for management tasks, from file tagging and retention setting, to encryption policies, and services can be done on the fly, or automated without endangering sensitive or encrypted information.
