Outlook for Android is now the real deal

Microsoft has dropped the Preview tag for the Microsoft Outlook app for Android phones and tablets, bringing equality with the iOS version.

Outlook for Android can now be installed through Google Play Store for users with Android 4.0 and above.

According to a post on the Office blog, “We set a high bar for where we wanted Outlook for Android to be before we removed the preview label. Since our preview release we’ve updated Outlook for Android 17 times—that’s more than one update per week—to meet this bar.”

Some of the features in the final version include:

  • An updated look and feel of the app to provide a more consistent Outlook experience across operating systems and devices.
  • Enhanced IMAP support
  • A revised People view with a unified view or contacts from all email accounts.
  • Outlook now integrates your full organisational directory (also known as the Global Address List or GAL) in the People section.
  • a three-day calendar view has been added
  • customised swipe gestures
  • The ability to permanently delete items from your deleted items folder.
