Cognos' UpFront portal sits on top of a "platform" of software and services which covers the requirements of data marts, metadata, security, content management and business intelligence. UpFront acts as the interface for existing Cognos applications like PowerPlay 6.6 and Query. The UpFront environment provides users with a single Web-based point of personalised access to Cognos BI information and non-BI content. The Cognos BI Portal can be implemented "stand alone" for organisations without an enterprise portal strategy, or as a BI channel in a company's established portal strategy.
Sterling Software's EUREKA:Portal is a direct descendant of Information Advantage's MyEureka! Product. Now that Sterling has taken over IA, the code has integrated with Sterling's business intelligence applications to form the EUREKA:Suite, which also includes Reporter, Analyst, Intelligence and Strategy components. Users of the Portal can initiate searches, publish and subscribe to information repositories, distribute documents via messengers, and personalise the delivery and presentation of content. The Portal can also integrate data from external sources, including text, document management, custom systems and non-Sterling BI apps. EUREKA:Portal is a pure Java application.
