A manager at The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) NSW Branch has admitted ordering a purge of email following receipt of a Notice to Produce from the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance and Corruption.

The vast majority of Australian businesses are now using some form of cloud computing and cloud-based email is a common choice for local organisations. Since the start of this year, retailer Woolworths and publishers News Corp and Fairfax have announced plans to switch their on-premises email systems to Google Apps, while Qantas and the Queensland Government said they were shifting to Microsoft’s Office 365.

Mimecast, a provider of cloud-based email archiving, continuity and security, has announced a global partnership with Nuix, the Australian developer of intelligent email archive migration tools. This technology integration means Mimecast can now migrate quickly large volumes of user data from an enterprise’s legacy archive to Mimecast’s cloud platform. 

Metalogix has unveiled a new release of Email Migrator 3.0 which adds the addition of Office365 to other hosted Exchange platforms and on-premises implementations of Exchange.

Office365 is being deployed to almost 150,000 government employees in Queensland, in a deal that that is expected to shave $A13.7 million off Microsoft licensing costs over three years.

Android users can look forward to an official Microsoft mail client released later this year, following on from the launch of the Outlook Web App (OWA) for iPhone and iPad last year. Office365 users in particular will look forward to an Android client that offers Exchange ActiveSync support.
