Desktop drives meet growing needs
Quantum has announced the release of the Bigfoot TX series of hard disk drives that feature capabilities of 4GB, 6GB, 8GB and 12GB.
Storage requirements for PC users continue to double every year. Two years ago the average storage capacity was 600MB and in two years it will be 8GB. This growing need for capacity is being driven by new data files and graphical applications, software upgrades and Internet downloads.
As a result, larger hard drives are more likely to last the life of a PC. A drive that is 25 per cent full when new will have to be replaced in one-and-a-half years, while a drive that is only 10 per cent full when the PC is purchased will last about three years. As upgrade costs outweigh the cost of purchasing a larger hard drive with a new system it is important that PC users buy the highest capacity drive available.
The drives utilise the standard 5.25 inch footprint, have vertical heights of 21mm and easily mount in virtually all mass storage bays.
The cost of the Quantum Bigfoot TX series ranges from $399 to $699.
