Objective Supports NZ $2.2-billion Education Budget

Month Date, 2006: New Zealand's Tertiary Education Commission selects Objective as its electronic documents and records management vendor of choice.

Coming through the NZ government tendering process that drew eleven responses to the request for information (RFI), Objective won the contract from a shortlist of five high-profile contenders. The contract itself saw Objective replacing the manual systems and legacy databases that served as a major part of the TEC's NZ$2.2-billion annual budget.

David Oakes, Chief Information Officer, at the TEC says: "We embarked on this project to manage information more effectively. The aggregated formation of TEC brought people together that held pockets of intellectual knowledge and information that was not centrally available. As a new organisation, our existing filing system was limited and used by a small percentage of the organisation's user base. Staff were also concerned about security and integrity, so people felt uncomfortable putting their documents into the existing system.

TEC made the decision to roll the project out using the latest version, 7, of the Objective solution. As project team member, Peter Thomson, points out in the upcoming IDM feature on this project, "We took what many would consider a very brave step and chose to be the first implementation of V7.0 in the world. V7.0 has been rock solid for us in Production and any issues that did crop up in testing were addressed quickly."
