Hitachi Greens Up Midrange Storage

Hitachi Greens Up Midrange Storage

September 25, 2007: Hitachi Data Systems has announced a change in its portfolio of midrange storage systems to green up its offerings.

The portfolio lineup is designed to help clients address the rising ‘green’ concerns from rising energy costs, impending surcharges, data centre and floor space consumption and reducing the carbon footprint of the business. The change will specifically effect Hitachi’s Adaptable Modular Storage (AMS) and Workgroup Modular Storage (WMS) systems.

Hitachi sticks to the proven mould of calling any product which reduces power consumption a green product. The power savings come from enabling customers to power down disks when not being accessed by a business application. The disks can then be powered up quickly when an application attempts to access them.

"It should come as no surprise that Hitachi is the first leading storage vendor to provide the ability to power down its drives when not in use. Hitachi has core competency in storage system design and technologies and this ability is a direct outcome of that” said Tony Asaro, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group.

The systems will offer the ability to use 750 GB SATA II hard drives as well as inbuilt enterprise security options
