Linux back up for IBM eServer
As the business community switches to the Linux environment over other proprietary options there is an increasing need for back-up solutions to protect the critical data now handled on Linux. Legato is one of the first to offer a back up solution for Linux users that also use the IBM eServer zSeries environment.
The new product is an extension of the NetWorker back-up product from Legato, which they claim is the first complete back-up and recovery solution for critical data on IBM eServer for Linux.
"More and more of our customer are discovering the cost effectiveness of consolidating hundreds of servers on a single IBM eServer zSeries running on Linux," said Susan Dekekelaere, an IBM program director for eServer.
David L Beamer, the vice president and COO of Legato added, "Though there are other back-up and recovery alternatives for IBM eServer running Linux, the other lack the server/storage node functionality."
NetWorker provides end users with full, incremental or differential back-up to either tape or disk media. Legato said the application also allows for load sharing within a NetWorker data zone and this increases scalability as the back-up environment grows.
