Snap introduce high performer to Asia-Pac

Network-attached storage (NAS) provider Snap Appliance has announced the availability of its Snap System 4500, a midrange NAS system.

Independent firm VeriTest recently completed a comprehensive analysis of network attached storage (NAS) performance and found that the Snap Server 4500 outperformed competitive NAS devices from Dell, HP, and Iomega, generating as much as 264% more throughput and 327% faster response times in laboratory testing.

Snap Appliance commissioned VeriTest to compare the performance of the Snap Server 4500 NAS solution to Dell's PowerVault 725N, Hewlett Packard's StorageWorks NAS 1000s, and Iomega's NAS P440m.

"(The) results are indicative of Snap's commitment to remain the worldwide leader of Network Attached Storage products and technology," said Eric Kelly, CEO, Snap Appliance. "The Snap Server 4500's success is a great example of innovative software and technology built on the Linux platform, which delivers considerable cost and performance benefits to enterprise storage customers."

VeriTest's full report titled "Snap Appliance Snap Server 4500: NAS Performance Testing" is available from VeriTest's Web site at http://www.veritest.com and includes comprehensive details on throughput, response rates, and configuration parameters.

Snap has also announced that its Snap Server 14000 is now available with three terabytes of capacity and enhanced features for the entry level market. It enables enterprise IT managers to lower storage acquisition and management costs by consolidating file servers into a centralised system for information sharing across heterogeneous networks including Windows, Unix, Linux, and Macintosh.

"The storage demands of IT and storage administrators continue to grow," said IDC analyst, Brad Nisbet. "By increasing the capacity and enhancing the feature sets in these NAS products, Snap Appliance will provide small enterprise customers a cost-effective option to satisfy storage requirements."
