Veritas improves storage management for Windows

In another boost to Microsoft's bid to increase its presence in the data storage market, storage software provider Veritas has announced that its new StorageCentral 5.2 product has been designed to support Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 and its new Windows Storage Server 2003.

StorageCentral allows companies to manage growing Windows storage environments through the enhancement of quota and file management capabilities, with the ability to limit the amount of storage individual users can utilise, as well as blocking certain types of files from being stored on corporate machines, ensuring that only "business-appropriate" files are being stored on corporate resources.

"Veritas has made strides in the enterprise Windows market with support for both Windows Server 2003 and Windows Storage Server 2003 as illustrated with the latest release of StorageCentral," said Zane Adam, director of product management and marketing for the Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft Corp. "We continue to work with Veritas to broaden Windows-based storage technologies and deliver cost-efficient storage solutions that address the need of our customers."

"This new release of Veritas StorageCentral drives our SRM strategy forward with quota management and file blocking functionality in Windows environments," said Brenda Zawatski, vice president of product and solutions marketing, Veritas. "Veritas storage automation solutions are critical building blocks of the utility computing model and StorageCentral is the SRM centerpiece for this building block, providing an automated cost-efficient management model for complex multi-vendor storage subsystems."
