Datadobi Targets Overexposed Files Before AI Rollouts

Datadobi has added Data Access Governance (DAG) to its StorageMAP platform, allowing administrators to  see who has access to unstructured data across fragmented storage, and whether that access matches policy.

Datadobi says it lets organisations detect misaligned permissions, reduce cyber exposure and enforce governance at scale.

DAG surfaces access permissions across unstructured data held in different systems. It shows which data is exposed and who can reach it, a question the company says many organisations still answer through manual investigation.

Datadobi says beta customers had identified gaps in their understanding of which critical datasets were exposed. They often relied on manual work to respond to audits and security incidents.

With DAG, those organisations were able to identify overexposed data quickly and validate access controls, according to the company.

Use cases include protecting sensitive data and reducing the impact of a breach. Datadobi also lists maintaining records compliance and managing risk through mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

For organisations subject to data protection regulations, the company says DAG can show that access controls are in place. It can also show they work as intended and align with business policy. It cites GDPR, HIPAA and PCI DSS as examples.

Datadobi also positions DAG as a governance foundation for AI projects. Organisations need to know who can access data before they can trust it as an input to AI.

Part of a broader platform

DAG extends existing StorageMAP capabilities in data discovery, classification, risk assessment, lifecycle management and AI data readiness.

Datadobi describes visibility as the first stage of a four-step discipline it calls data storage management services. The stages are visibility, understanding, decision and execution.

"Unstructured data is at the centre of every major enterprise challenge right now including AI readiness, cyber resilience, cost management, and regulatory compliance," said Michael Jack, co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer at Datadobi.

"But organizations cannot address any of those challenges with data they cannot see or control. Data Access Governance gives teams the visibility to understand who has access to what, identify where risk exists, and take action to bring their unstructured data under control."
